Learn about The Possibilities Project, a new program to provide housing and critical trauma-informed counseling and supports to Virginia youth who have aged out of the foster care system. The Possibilities Project, a collaboration between Children’s Home Society of Virginia and Richmond’s Better Housing Coalition, officially launched in March.
In this TV8 story you’ll also meet 23-year-old Janeva Smith and hear about her struggles and experiences after aging out of foster care as a teenager.
Virginia ranks worst in the country for the rate at which young people age out of the foster care system without being adopted. In 2015, more than 500 young people in Virginia aged out of the system. It happens to more than 23,000 young people in the U.S. every year.
