Children’s Home Society of Virginia needs volunteers and household donations for The Possibilities Project, with donation days on March 4 and 5. This collaborative initiative with the Better Housing Coalition will empower youth ages 18 to 24 who have aged out of foster care by providing them critical social supports and housing, and assisting as they develop into independent and engaged community members.
Donations of new and gently used items will help create fun, comfortable living spaces for these young adults who, as part of the project, will be provided with safe housing in addition to important wraparound services. Items include the following categories:
Food and Pantry Items
For a complete itemized list of needs, in addition to directions to the drop-off location at CHS’s Richmond office, please click on the PDF that appeared with the short version of this article on the previous page. Donations are tax-deductible, and you will be provided with a receipt for your contribution. Donation days are:
Friday, March 4, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, March 5, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
CHS is also seeking volunteers to help with move-in and set-up of the apartments, including:
Movers & Shakers: You don’t balk at the idea of moving boxes and love the idea of helping to set up and organize everything from the kitchen to the bathroom.
Heavy Lifters: You’re fearless about moving that large piece up and down stairs.
Coordinators: You know how to gather together volunteers and donations, make simple schedules, run a tight ship, and keep things fun and lighthearted.
Designers: You have an eye for youthful design! You know how to take simple items, position them just so, and make them look fantastic.
Bakers & Partiers: You think the idea of baking a “Welcome Home” cake for each house or putting together a simple, healthy Welcome Home Party sounds like the most fun ever.
Friends & Mentors: You’ve supported this effort, love what you see and want to get involved by offering a workshop, mentoring, and more.
