Children’s Home Society announces a new slate of Board Members and Officers

 

RICHMOND, Va. (June 29, 2018) Children’s Home Society is pleased to announce four new board members, each of whom will complement our goals for diversity and expertise in the areas of child welfare and community leadership.

Joining the Board of Directors for the upcoming fiscal year, starting July 1, 2018, will be:

Colleen Ewing, Ph.D., MBA is a practitioner in the field of Clinical Psychology who divides her time amongst her private practice, position as a staff psychologist at a local hospital, and adjunct faculty at a local community college. In her clinical practice, she delivers evidence-based treatments (including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and adjustment problems, such as anxiety, stress, and depression.  Colleen also conducts psychological evaluations.

Colleen received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, a master’s degree in General Psychology from Virginia State University, and a doctoral degree from Oklahoma State University. She completed a Clinical Psychology internship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and a post-doctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology at the New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. Colleen also received a master’s in Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her community activities include recently graduating from Leadership Metro Richmond.

Willie Lanier is a Member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  As the first black middle linebacker in NFL history, he led the Kansas City Chiefs to their only Super Bowl win in Super Bowl IV.  Mr. Lanier was named Man of the Year by the NFL in 1972 in recognition of his work in the community. In 1977 Willie switched fields from football to finance, joining Wheat First Securities.  The owner of several business, Willie has continued to be involved in the community, both in Kansas City and in his native Richmond. Willie was the CHS Legacy event speaker in 2015.

 

 

Mr. Carl Price is a former foster child, a cancer survivor, and a US Navy Veteran. He had the honor to speak before a US Senate hearing on Childhood Trauma and provides training on Childhood Trauma and Complex Trauma. Additionally, Carl has mentored youth who are in foster care and those who have age-out of foster care. Carl is an adviser and helps many organizations develop a broad perspective and background in areas of trauma, foster care, community organizations and more. “I am able to help others because I too have faced struggles and have learned how to win.” He was a keynote speaker at this year’s CHS Legacy Event.

 

 

Ms. Amanda Simons, M.Ed., MSW, C-SSWS, CTS has spent the past 23 years serving children and families in the field of human services and education. Her background includes case management in group homes and serving as a school counselor. She is currently a Certified School Social Worker for Chesterfield County Public Schools. Her primary focus is to reduce chronic absenteeism and truancy, facilitate family engagement in support services, and linking students and families with community resources. Amanda also has experience working with state and private agencies who focus on foster care and foster care prevention. She has served on the CHS Service Committee for the past year.  She is certified as a Trauma Specialist by the Virginia Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers and a nationally Certified School Social Worker Specialist.
